History

The old ‘O.G.’ as it was affectionately known, is one of the oldest landmarks of the very early days of South Australia, being one of the first hotels in the state.

The name O.G. has an historic link with early South Australia being the initials of Osmond Gilles, a prominent citizen and settler of the early days whom Glen Osmond, Gilles Plains and Gilles Street were also named.

Some 165 years after The O.G. was granted its first licence, Adelaide hoteliers Wayne and Jenny Francis have carefully renovated the hotel to provide guests with modern and comfortable facilities, ideal for hosting your next special event.

Whilst visiting the hotel, be sure to have a wander and you will notice various photographs and historical references to both the building and the history of the hotel, and Adelaide. The images presented on this page can also be found framed on the walls of the hotel, proudly showing of the hotels rich heritage.
